Abstract The invention discloses an automatic combustion optimization device based on an externally-mounted grate furnace. The automatic combustion optimization device comprises an MPC control platform and anoriginal control system, wherein information intercommunication is carried out between the MPC control platform and the original control system through an OPC communication protocol; a control systemis arranged in the MPC control platform, the control system comprises an algorithm programmer software package and an algorithm running software package connected with the algorithm programmer software package, and the algorithm running software package carries out information intercommunication with the original control system through the OPC communication protocol; and a communication quality discrimination system is further arranged between the MPC control platform and the original control system, the communication quality discrimination system is used for discriminating the communication quality of the MPC control
