Abstract In the present invention, when visibly displaying a given image for a user (USR), the direction of the user's gaze is detected. Letting a first image be a portion assumed to exist in the detected direction of the user's gaze and a second image be an image complementary to the first image with respect to the given image, the first image is focused and displayed at a first distance away from both eyes of the user by scanning laser light at the retinal position of both eyes of the user from a user's head-mounted retinal scan display unit (20). Furthermore, the second image is displayed on the panel surface of a panel display unit (50) provided at a second distance away from the user, the second distance being shorter than the first distance.
