Abstract The invention provides a method and a device for online preview of an Excel file. The method comprises the following steps: acquiring a to-be-previewed Excel file from a server according to an Excel file preview request, and analyzing the Excel file; rendering the analyzed Excel file, and displaying the rendered Excel file in a file display area which is drawn in a Html5 file in advance; and monitoring the state of a spreadsheet selection area pre-drawn in the Html5 file, and switching the display contents of the file display area when the state changes.
