Abstract The invention discloses a breeding method for increasing panicum miliaceum yield in a short-day condition. The breeding method includes: increasing field illumination and illumination duration duringgrowing of panicum miliaceum, wherein increasing of the illumination duration refers to increasing illumination to 18h in each day, and increasing of field illumination refers to prolonging the illumination duration to 25d; applying base fertilizer only one time before seeding, wherein the base fertilizer comprises 100kg/hm2 of pure N, 80kg/hm2 of P2O5 and 80kg/hm2 of K2O.
