An apparatus for providing a respiratory mask in a vehicle includes (a) a storage section in which a number of respiratory masks can be deposited; (b) a cover, which can be moved between a closed position and an open position; (c) a closure mechanism, which acts in combination with the cover and which can be switched from a first state, in which the closure mechanism holds the cover in the closedposition, to a second state, in which the closure mechanism releases the cover to move into the open position, and vice versa; and (d) a control unit.
