Summary: | The invention relates to a compression piston ring, comprising a running surface, an inner peripheral surface, and upper and lower flank surfaces extending therebetween, wherein a slight taper < 30' having an axial height of 10-30%, with respect to the total running-surface height (H), is formed on the running-surface side in the region of the lower flank surface, which slight taper transitions into a taper that extends in the direction of the upper flank surface and that has a magnitude between 90 and 200', and wherein a thin wear-resistant layer having a thickness between 0.1 and < 20 [miu], in particular 4-6 [miu], is deposited on the entire running surface.
