The invention discloses a method for purifying crude guaiacol catalytically synthesized from pyrocatechol and methanol. The method comprises the steps: firstly, subjecting the crude guaiacol to melt crystallization and heating-up sweating, so as to obtain high-purity guaiacol; separately collecting mother liquor remaining during crystallization and mother liquor generated during sweating, subjecting the mother liquor with the purity higher than 90% and raw materials to merging and direct crystallizing, subjecting an ingredient with the purity lower than 90% to rectification under vacuum to enrich guaiacol until crystallization requirements are met, and then, carrying out crystallization; and carrying out back-extraction treatment on a phthalic dimethyl ether enriched mixture obtained through rectification under vacuum, thereby obtaining pure phthalic dimethyl ether. According to the method, the purification process is low in energy consumption, the product quality is high, and the separation cost is low; a by
