Abstract | Provided is a method for modifying a catalyst layer whereby a yield in manufacturing a catalyst coated membrane can be improved. According to the method for modifying a catalyst layer, the catalyst layer of a catalyst coated membrane (40), which is manufactured by transferring the catalyst layer (211) formed on a transfer sheet (50) on an electrolyte membrane (21), is modified. The method for modifying a catalyst layer comprises detecting the presence or absence of a defect (D) in the catalyst layer, removing the detected defect on the basis of the size and position of the defect, and then applying a correcting ink (211B) corresponding to the catalyst layer to a part P1, from which the defect has been removed, to thereby correct the catalyst layer.
