Abstract The invention discloses a method for preparing chloroethylene carbonate. The method comprises a step of synthesizing chloroethylene carbonate through ethylene carbonate and a chlorination agent in an illumination condition by use of a transition metal nanoparticle photosensitizer. The chloroethylene carbonate comprises monochloroethylene carbonate and dichloroethylene carbonate. The adopted catalyst is a transition metal nanoparticle photosensitizer. The illumination condition is ultraviolet illumination or illumination of visible light including sunlight and ordinary lighting.
