Abstract The invention discloses a gene for controlling the plant height or the upright growth of leaves of rice and application of the gene. The gene RLA1 plays an important role in the signal transduction pathway of rice brassinosteroid and has a CDS sequence represented by SEQ ID NO.1 and an encoded amino acid sequence represented by SEQ ID NO.2.
