The invention discloses a paper money processing device which can carry out specified processing on paper money according to serial numbers which are registered in advance. The paper money processing device (100) comprises a taking port (24), transportation parts (7 and 8), an identification part (3), a serial number identification part which identifies the serial numbers of the paper money, a gathering part (5) which gathers the paper money judged as normal paper money, and a rejection part (6) which gathers the paper money judged as rejected paper money. The paper money processing device (100) further comprises a registering part (17) which registers the serial numbers in advance, a checking part which checks the registered serial numbers and the identification results of the serial numbers, and a control part (120) which carries out specified processing on the specific paper money, wherein the registered serial numbers of the specific paper money are consistent with checking results.
