The invention relates to a vacuum cleaner comprising a dirt collection container (10) that has a suction inlet (12) and that is in fluid connection with a suction assembly via at least one filter (16) and a suction line (18), said vacuum cleaner also comprising a purge air feed device (26) for feeding purge air into the suction line downstream of said filter. Said purge air feed device has at least one purge air opening (32) and a closing element (44) which can be moved back and forth between a closing position, in which said element closes the purge air opening, and a release position, in which said element exposes the purge air opening. In order to further develop the vacuum cleaner such that it allows, with low production costs, effective cleaning of the at least one filter, said closing element (44) can be moved into its release position by the application, against a restoring force (60), of negative pressure to the rear side (62) of said element, said rear side facing away from the suction line.
