The invention relates to a method for producing a template having a relief on the upper face thereof, said relief comprising a plurality of openings (12) the contours of which correspond to a desired pattern. The invention also relates to such a template. The aim of the invention is to enable higher reliefs and thus a greater design freedom of patterns to be applied. This is achieved by the following steps: providing a template body (10) having at least one non-metal relief layer (11) that is not perforated; and removing the material of the relief layer (11) in a patterned manner by means of laser or plasma radiation in order to form a plurality of openings (12) of the relief, wherein through-openings are provided at least in the bottom region of the openings (12) of the relief, said through-openings extending to a rear face opposite the upper face.
