Method for configuring a control element (1) of a means (2) for regulating a heating resistor (3), in which a parameter representative of the heating resistor (3) is recorded in a memory (4) of the regulating means (2), the control element being configured by software which it uses to regulate the power supplied, characterized in that it comprises the steps of connecting the regulating means (2) to the mains, determining a parameter representative of the heating resistor (3), and recording the parameter in the memory of the regulating means (2), so that the control element (1) assigned to each heating resistor (3) can be configured automatically when the regulating means (2) is connected to the mains.
