Summary:A system and method are provided for global transmission power control in a wireless communication device. The method comprises: measuring the received power of a receiving device; collecting the received power measurements, and accepting a received power threshold. Calculating the path loss to the receiving devices; wherein generating the optimal transmit power level includes generating a matrixof optimal transmit powers as follows: popt = Limv (Rth-N) ; where Limv is the inverse of a matrix representing link path loss (L); Rth is a received power threshold matrix; and N is a matrix representing the thermal noise of the receiving devices. The method can be used to provide global transmission power control in the uplink and in the downlink.
