Summary:An autonomous vehicle having sensors advantageously varied in capabilities, advantageously positioned, and advantageously impervious to environmental conditions. A system executing on the autonomous vehicle that can receive a map including, for example, substantially discontinuous surface features along with data from the sensors, create an occupancy grid based upon the map and the data, and change the configuration of the autonomous vehicle based upon the type of surface on which the autonomous vehicle navigates. The device can safely navigate surfaces and surface features, including traversing discontinuous surfaces and other obstacles. L'invention concerne un véhicule autonome comportant des capteurs à capacités qui varient avantageusement, avantageusement positionnés, et avantageusement imperméables aux conditions environnementales. Un système s'exécutant sur le véhicule autonome peut recevoir une carte comprenant, par exemple, des caractéristiques de surface sensiblement discontinues conjointement avec des données provenant des capteurs, créer une grille d'occupation sur la base de la carte et des données, et modifier la configuration du véhicule autonome sur la base du type de surface sur lequel le véhicule autonome navigue. Le dispositif peut naviguer en toute sécurité sur des surfaces et des caractéristiques de surface, notamment traverser des surfaces discontinues et d'autres obstacles.
