A gas cylinder monitoring system (10) comprising a gas cylinder (15) for receiving and distributing gas contained therein, a first monitoring system (16) associated with the gas cylinder operable to monitor data associated with the gas cylinder (15) and having a transmitter (22) operable to broadcast the data at a controlled time and/or time interval in a discrete advertisement package (AP), and a second monitoring system (18a-f) associated with one or more locations (A-F) in which the first monitoring system (16) may reside and having a receiver (19) operable in a first mode to receive the advertisement package broadcast from the first monitoring system (16) when the second monitoring system (18) is within range of the first monitoring system (16). La présente invention concerne un système de surveillance de bouteille de gaz (10) comprenant une bouteille de gaz (15) permettant de recevoir et distribuer du gaz qu'elle contient, un premier système de surveillance (16) associé à la bouteille de gaz et servant à surveiller des données associées à la bouteille de (15) et possédant un émetteur (22) servant à diffuser les données à un temps et/ou un intervalle de temps commandés dans un ensemble d'annonces (AP) discret et un second système de surveillance (18a-f) associé à un ou plusieurs emplacements (A-F) dans lesquels le premier système de surveillance (16) peut être situé et possédant un récepteur (19) servant dans un premier mode à recevoir l'ensemble d'annonces diffusé en provenance du premier système de surveillance (16) lorsque le second système de surveillance (18) se trouve à portée du premier système de surveillance (16).
