Abstract A composite manufacture includes an extrudable thermoplastic matrix and a photochromic colorant, the photochromic colorant conferring to the composite a reversible strain-induced color change property. Methods include adding photochromic colorant to an extrudable thermoplastic polymer matrix to form a mixture, heating the mixture to form a composite, the photochromic colorant conferring to the composite a reversible strain-induced color change property. The composite manufactures can be used in cable coatings permitting visual detection of mechanical stresses in a wire based on the reversible strain-induced color change property. Une fabrication composite comprend une matrice thermoplastique extrudable et un colorant photochromique, ce dernier conférant, au composite, une propriété de changement de couleur réversible et induite par force. Des méthodes comprennent lajout dun colorant photochromique matrice polymère thermoplastique extrudable pour former un mélange, le chauffage du mélange pour former un composite, le colorant photochromique conférant, au composite, une propriété de changement de couleur réversible et induite par force. Les fabrications composites peuvent être utilisées dans des revêtements de câbles permettant une détection visuelle de contraintes mécaniques dans un fil en fonction de la propriété de changement de couleur réversible et induite par force.
