Summary: | The present invention takes advantage of the ability of the block copolymers having thermodynamically incompatible blocks to undergo phase separation and self-assemble into nanostructures, thereby creating membranes having uniform porosity. A diblock copolymer of the formula (I): is provided, wherein R1 is a C1-C22 alkyl group optionally substituted; R2 to R4 are C6-C20 aryl group or a heteroaryl group, optionally substituted. The method of making involves dissolving the diblock copolymer in a solvent system to obtain a polymer solution; spin coating the polymer solution onto a substrate; annealing the coating obtained to obtain a self-assembled structure; and soaking the self-assembled structure in a solvent or mixture of solvents to obtain a porous membrane.
