Abstract A system and method employing image analysis may provide an objective mea sure of the state of gingival tissue health. A region of analysis on an imag e of gingival tissue may be divided into pixels. Each pixel may have an asso ciated color made up of component R, G and B values. A user may obtain an ob jective measurement of oral cavity soft tissue health by determining an obje ctive measurement of the component color values of a gingival tissue image r egion and performing statistical analysis on the color values.
