A controller (50) is configured to regulate the cooling system (44) such that upon activation of the welding-type component (32) coolant is caus ed to flow through the welding-type component (32) and circulate after deactivation of the welding torch (32) until a temperature (54) of the coolant falls below a certain value or a specified time period has expired.
