Abstract Braking system for vehicles, comprising electric braking units (14), each provided for each wheel in order to prevent an unnecessary excessive yaw moment from being applied to a vehicle when the braking force generating uni t for any wheel runs into trouble and to improve the running stability of the vehicle, for generating a braking force by the driving of actuators (22) according to the extent of the depression of a brake pedal (32), and a contr ol unit (38) for controlling an electric braking unit for each wheel independently of each other, wherein the control unit determines whether or not an electric braking unit for any one of the wheels is in trouble (S253, 259), and when an electric braking unit for one wheel is found in trouble, t he control unit prohibits the operation of the electric braking unit of the whe el laterally opposite to the wheel in trouble, and causes the right and left wheels longitudinally opposite to the wheel in trouble to generate braking forces (S258, 263).
