Summary: | 1419296 Metal cans MOBIL OIL CORP 30 April 1973 [29 Sept 1972] 20424/73 Heading B8D [Also in Division C3] Metal containers are produced by bonding lap-seamed coated metal blanks with a nylon adhesive. The coating composition comprises a thermosetting resin prepared by (a) forming an epoxy material (I) having a molecular weight per epoxy group of 1600-2000 obtained by reacting a polyglycidyl ether of a bisphenol with additional bisphenol and further reacting the product with a mixture of fatty acids (II) comprising (by wt.) 25-55% oleic acid, 35- 65% linoleic acid and the balance conjugated linoleic acid; the weight ratio of I : II being 65 : 35 to 70 : 30. Using the coating composition of the invention, it is unnecessary to leave a strip of uncoated material where the nylon adhesive is to be applied. |
