Summary:The invention relates to a method for the catalytic hydroprocessing of heavy petroleum hydrocarbons with a high concentration of contaminants (metals and asphaltenes), which is performed at low-pressure operating conditions, together with the type of reactor and the type of feedstock. The invention limits the formation of sediments and sludge in the product and can be used to produce a hydrotreated hydrocarbon with improved properties and with contaminant, API gravity and distillate levels which fall within the ranges commonly reported for standard feedstock for refining schemes.
