Summary:Ultra-fine Co metal powder is composed of spherical or rice grain shaped crystallites. > 90% of the crystallites have a diameter from 0.5 to 2 mu m and the Na and C contents < 100 ppm and < 500 ppm respectively. Also claimed is a method for producing such Co powder by reacting a soluble Co salt with a solution or suspension of an alkali or alkaline earth metal or cobalt or ammonium carbonate and or hydrogen carbonate at pH 5.5 to 6.8, separating and washing the precipitated product with H2O, drying it and reducing the CoCO3 obtained to Co metal.
