Abstract ULTRASONIC SURGICAL INSTRUMENT WITH COOLING SYSTEM An ultrasonic surgical instrument (10) including a blade (32) that treats tissue and a fluid control system (90) to cool the blade (32) by pumping cooling fluid (589) through the blade (32). The blade (32) defines a blade lumen (184) in fluid contact with an inflow and return conduit (82 and 186) of the fluid control system (90). The inflow conduit (82) defines an open distal end positioned within the blade lumen (184) adjacent the distal end of the blade lumen (184) and the return conduit (186) defines an open distal end positioned within the blade lumen (184) adjacent the proximal end of the blade lumen (184). The fluid control system (90) may further include a fluid reservoir (188) holding the cooling fluid (589) and an inflow pump (592). The inflow pump (592) is configured to deliver the fluid (589) from the fluid reservoir (188), through the inflow conduit (82) and the blade lumen (184), and into return conduit (186).
