Abstract Germination and Growth of Four Species of Combretaceae in Nursery. Tests on the germination and early growth were conducted on four common Combretaceae species (Combretum glutinosum, Combretum micranthum, Combretum nigrians et Guiera senegalensis) in Niger. The aim of the study is to assess germination rate and growth during the first hundred days after sowing. Depending on the species, a germination rate of 70100% has been obtained for a germination period of 9 to 18 days. Guiera senegalensis had the best growth for all monitored parameters (height, collar diameter, leaf biomass, number of branches). The lowest average height was found for Combretum glutinosum. No significant differences were observed between height of Combretum micranthum and Combretum nigricans. The seedling diameter of Combretum glutinosum, Combretum micranthum and Combretum nigricans were statistically similar. Foliar biomass of Combretum micranthum and Combretum nigricans were the lowest. Finally, seedlings of Combretum glutinosum and Combretum nigricans did not produce branches. Transplantable seedlings of the four species can be produced in nurseries after 45 months and used in plantations.
