Walking the line: Cuban exiles in the United States and Maghrebin Immigrants in France

Migratory patterns differ from one community to another, from one international context tothe other. Thus, it is difficult to find common points between them, considering all thevariables involved in migration and Diaspora studies. One element that is common to allDiaspora communities is that rupture, though traumatic, can become the source of creation.This interdisciplinary case study compares and contrasts the situation of Cubans in the U.S.and that of the Maghrebins in France by means of lyrical literary production. By analyzingthe literature produced by migrants one can better understand the socio-political aspectsinvolved in how various communities adapt to their host countries.
