Abstract This chapter will start by establishing a baseline for volunteering in Scotland pre-pandemic, drawing upon robust quantitative data from the Scottish Household Survey, Volunteer Scotland's own research and authoritative secondary data sources, which will include the University of Stirling's comprehensive UK and international literature review for volunteering. The impact of COVID-19 will then be investigated, particularly the lessons learned on the contribution of mutual aid, informal volunteering, and the adjustments and accommodation which formal volunteer involving organisations have had to make.
