Abstract In the problem-solving approach, students will face many mathematics problems and try to solve them. Before and after solving the problems, students will gain more positive things. Before they solve the problem, students will have opportunities to improve their ability in realistic and rational thinking. After succeeding to solve the problems students will satisfy with their abilities. This positive situation may add some contribution to the students’ attitude about mathematics subject. Besides, it will improve the self-confidence of students in learning mathematics. The purpose of this study is to identify students’ self-confidence after being taught utilizing a problem-solving strategy, as well as to discover students’ actions following problem-solving. This is a quantitative descriptive study. The research design is the most basic type of experimental design. The samples in this study were drawn at random from classes VII A and VII C. Student observation sheets and student self-confidence questionnaires were employed in this study. Data analysis techniques are used by researchers to assess or analyze data obtained to provide some of the findings of their research. Both the activity observation sheet and self-confidence instruments were evaluated descriptively and quantitatively. The findings of this study indicate that using a problem-solving approach can boost students’ self-confidence in learning mathematics in the material of multiplication and division of integer operations in class VII SMP Negeri 1 Bangkelekila’ and make students more active and enthusiastic about learning mathematics.
