Summary: | Annie Webb Blanton's vision and efforts laid the foundation for today's Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. Drawing from the Society's history, the author offers a sociological perspective of the transformation of a 17-year-old teacher of a rural school in Texas to a 58 -year- old founder of an international honor society for 100,000 women educators in 17 countries. The author examines Blanton's business approach to seeking cognitive and sociopolitical legitimacy for the Society, which was created and promoted as a national organization for women in the teaching profession.
