Summary:Ferromagnetic insulators are the most promising candidates for the application in the field of dissipation less electronics, photovoltaics, and spintronics. From the application point of view, devices operating at room temperature are highly desirable. Here, we deposited thin films of different epitaxial strains of Bi2FeIrO6 (BFIO) by the pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique on various single crystalline substrates. The effect of crystallographic orientations as well as epitaxial strain on the magnetic and structural properties of BFIO thin films was studied. Our measurements suggest that the epitaxial strain imposed by the substrates alters the magnetic properties of these thin films while ferromagnetic ordering display a maximum and minimum magnetic moment along (100)-and (110)-oriented strained BFIO thin films, respectively.
