Gorsevski and Lamb state that today the field of Peace and Conflict/Justice studies is one of the fastest growing research disciplines in the social sciences. They note that key efforts are being made to redress the most common forms of social injusices as defined by scholars of Peace and Conflict/Justice Studies and, above all, practitioners on the ground in conflict zones. The work of some of these issues is highlighted through the research showcased in this special issue of "Global Media Journal." The authors comment that such efforts come from media producers as well as from audiences worldwide, and performances in the media also factor into a given society's ability to transform itself anew, creating possibilities for peace. They remark that the touchstone to this issue is a profound appreciation of the role that gender often plays in shaping how citizens, educators and activists analyze and redress conflict to promote more peaceful interrelationships among people, the natural environment, and species reliant upon wise stewardship of the natural world.
