Part of the modernization program for the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago is upgrading of the facility's HVAC systems on the five patient floors on a phased basis. This included the replacement of the old terminal boxes and supply-air ductwork, which were found to be not in compliance with the Illinois Department of Public Health codes. The work also called for the refurbishing of the radiant panel and terminal reheat coil control valves, which had deteriorated and were not maintaining room temperatures. Several options were considered for patient room HVAC modernization.
