Israeli Arab committee organizes parades and rallies to protest about the expropriation of Arab land. The first Land Day demonstration in 1976 erupted in riots in which six Arabs were killed. Most Land Day commemorations have passed quietly but this year there is concern that disturbances could break out (Israeli newspaper The Jerusalem Post web site) JORDAN: Fourth Mediterranean Development Forum takes place in Amman. NGOs and organizations from Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco and other regional states to discuss regional trade, investment and other issues (Egyptian news agency MENA)
AbstractList CHINA: India's External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh visits at the invitation of Foreign Minister [Tang Jiaxuan]. Will also meet Premier [Zhu Rongji] and visit Shanghai (Indian news agency PTI, Chinese news agency [Xinhua]) CHINA: Bulgaria's Minister of Foreign Affairs Solomon Isak Pasi visits at the invitation of Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan. Will also meet Premier Zhu Rongji, National People's Congress Standing Committee Chairman [Li Peng] and the mayor of Beijing. Pasi will meet the Shanghai city government and tour the local free trade area. The talks will focus on economic ties, particularly opportunities to increase the exchange of goods and investment in Bulgaria. Will be accompanied by members of business community, who will attend a business forum organized by export promotion association (Chinese Xinhua news agency) JAPAN: China's Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Li Peng visits Japan. Will meet Prime Minister [Junichiro Koizumi], Speaker of House of Representatives Tamisuke Watanuki and President of House of Councilors Yutaka Inoue. RUSSIA: Kazakh Foreign Minister Kasymzhomart Tokayev visits Moscow to discuss bilateral issues, international terrorism. Bilateral documents to be signed on cooperation between foreign ministries, guarding of borders, status of Russian military deployed in Kazakhstan (Interfax-Kazakhstan news agency, Russian news agency ITAR-TASS) RUSSIA: Liberal Russia political movement holds congress in Moscow to convert itself into a political party. Tycoon Boris Berezovskiy is a leading figure in the movement, though he is unlikely to attend, as he is currently in London and could face charges were he to return to Russia now (Russian newspaper Kommersant) RUSSIA: Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi pays official visit to discuss bilateral issues, fight against terrorism. Scheduled to hold talks with President Putin in Sochi (on 2nd) and Moscow (on 3rd) (Russian news agencies Interfax, ITAR-TASS)

SERBIA: Parliament opens its first regular spring session which will most probably focus on the future of the Yugoslav federation and Gen Momcilo Perisic's resignation from the post of Serbian deputy premier. (Yugoslav news agency Tanjug) ALBANIA: Summit of leaders from southeast European countries: Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Greece, Macedonia, Romania, Yugoslavia and Turkey participate in the Process for Cooperation in Southeast Europe, Croatia takes part as an observer. (Bulgarian news agency BTA) YUGOSLAVIA: Political tension is mounting with the approach of 31 March, deadline set by the international community and the US Congress for Yugoslavia to extradite to the Hague tribunal Yugoslav citizens indicted for war crimes, if the USA is to release further reconstruction aid.
