Abstract | LEBANON: Arab League summit takes place in Beirut. Middle East conflict and Iraq expected to be main subjects discussed. Palestinian leader Arafat not expected to be present (Egyptian news agency MENA) ISRAEL: Annual Land Day event. Israeli Arab committee organizes parades and rallies to protest about the expropriation of Arab land. The first Land Day demonstration in 1976 erupted in riots in which six Arabs were killed. Most Land Day commemorations have passed quietly but this year there is concern that disturbances could break out (Israeli newspaper The Jerusalem Post web site) JORDAN: Fourth Mediterranean Development Forum takes place in Amman. Tycoon Boris Berezovskiy is a leading figure in the movement, though he is unlikely to attend, as he is currently in London and could face charges were he to return to Russia now (Russian newspaper Kommersant) RUSSIA: Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi pays official visit to discuss bilateral issues, fight against terrorism.
