리차드 오스머의 기독교교육 사상과 포스트 코로나 기독교교육에 대한 함의 - 교수사역과 실천신학적 접근을 중심으로

본 연구는 기독교교육학자이며 실천신학자인 리처드 오스머의 은퇴(2018년) 를 기념하여 그의 학문적 공헌을 기술하고 정리하여 오늘의 상황에 대한 함의를 모색하고자 한다. 이를 위하여 먼저 그의 생애와 학문적 여정을 시대적으로 구분 하여 간략하게 살펴보고, 그의 기독교교육 사상을 교수사역에 초점을 맞추어서 논의한다. 오스머의 가장 큰 학문적 공헌 중의 하나는 회중의 신앙 교수사역 연구와 더불어 실천신학의 새로운 패러다임을 제시한 것이다(합의모델). 그런데 그의 실천신학 사상은 기독교교육학, 보다 구체적으로, 교수사역과 분리되지 않고 상호연관되어 있다. 즉 사회과학적인 패러다임 보다는 실천신학적 패러다임에서 교수사역에 대한 이론을 모색했다. 이를 염두에 두고 박사학위 논문에서 시작되어 지금까지 이어져 온 오스머의 새로운 패러다임의 실천신학 구성작업을 살펴본다. 마지막 부분에서는 포스트 코로나 상황에서 오스머의 교수사역과 실천신학적 접근이 한국 기독교교육과 실천신학 그리고 기독교교육에서 가장 중요한 자리를 자리하는 회중 사역에 주는 함의를 모색하고자 한다. This article aims to present Richard Osmer’s educational thought and its implications to the post-corona era in an attempt to honor his retirement in 2018. First, this article outlines his life and academic journey by dividing them into several periods and discusses his conceptualization of Christian education, specifically on the ways he envisioned teaching ministry. One of the most important academic contributions by Osmer is his construction of the new paradigm of practical theology called the “consensus model.” His approach to practical theology is mutually integrated with his understanding of Christian education, more specifically the teaching ministry. He seeks an alternative model of the teaching ministry by using a practical theological paradigm, rather than the social scientific one. This article describes his attempt to construct a new paradigm of practical theology, beginning from his doctoral dissertation to his present work. The last part of this article explores the implications of Osmer’s thought on the teaching ministry and practical theology and how they can be applied to post-corona Christian education (teaching ministry) and practical theology in Korea.
