말늦은 아동의 사회 정서 발달 종단연구

목적: 언어 발달은 신체, 인지, 정서 및 사회성 발달과 밀접한 관계를 맺으며 이루어진다. 본 연구의 목적은유아기 언어능력이 학령초기 사회 정서 발달에 영향을 미치는 지를 알아보는 것이다. 방법: 연구대상은 한국아동패널 4차 년도와 8차 년도 연구에 모두 참여한 1,493명의 아동들이다. 먼저 아동패널 4차 년도 자료(평균연령 3세)에서 표현어휘발달검사(REVT-E) 점수로 말늦은 아동과 일반 아동으로 나누었다. 말늦은 아동은표현어휘발달검사 결과 10%ile 이하에 해당하는 경우로 정하였다. 사회 정서 발달 측정으로는 아동행동평가척도(Child Behavior Checklist: CBCL)를 사용하였다. 8차 년도 자료(평균연령 7세)에서 두 그룹 아동들의 아동행동평가척도 점수를 비교하였다. 가계소득 및 어머니 학력과 같은 양육환경 요인을 사회 정서 발달에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 변인으로 고려하여 분석하였다. 결과: 연구 결과 사회 정서적 발달과 관련이 있다고 알려진양육환경 요인 중 말늦은 아동(N=279)과 일반 아동(N=1,214)은 어머니의 학력에서만 집단 간 차이를 보였다. 말늦은 아동 집단의 어머니 학력이 더 낮은 것으로 나타났다. CBCL 점수 분석에서 문제행동총점, 내재화, 외현화 3개 광역 점수 중 말늦은 아동은 일반 아동에 비해 문제행동총점, 외현화 점수에서 더 높은 점수를 보였고, 이러한 차이는 통계적으로 유의하였다. 더 자세히 알아보기 위해 8개 증후군 척도로 나누어 보았을 때 말늦은 아동은 일반 아동에 비해 사회적 미성숙, 주의집중 문제와 규칙위반과 공격행동에서 차이를 보였고, 이는 통계적으로 유의하였다. 결론: 이러한 결과는 유아기 느린 언어발달이 학령초기 사회 정서 발달에 부정적인 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 시사한다. 또한 말늦은 아동에 대한 조기 중재가 중요함을 시사한다. Purpose: Language development is closely related to physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development. The aim of this study was to determine whether late talkers are at increased risk for behavioral and emotional problems during childhood. Methods: The subjects were 1,493 children who participated in both the 4th and the 8th Panel Study of Korean Children. Participants were divided into two groups (late talkers vs typically developing children) according to scores on an expressive vocabulary test conducted when they were 3 years old (on average). Late talkers were defined as toddlers who scored at or below the 10th percentile on the expressive vocabulary test. The Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) was used to measure problem of child behavior. It Checklist was conducted when they were 7 years old (on average). The CBCL scores of the two groups were compared. Potential confounders included characteristics of parenting environment (family income, maternal education etc.). Results: The results of this study were as follows: 1) Maternal education was different in LT (n=279) and TD (n=1,214) groups. Maternal education level of LT was lower than TD. 2) Late talkers had higher Child Behavior Checklist scores (representing poorer behavior) than typically developing children in total problem behaviors, internalizing behaviors, and externalizing behaviors. 3) In detail, LT showed higher scores in social immaturity, attention problems, rule violation, and aggressive behavior than TD. Conclusions: These results suggest that the difficulty of early language development can have a negative effect on socio-emotional development in early school-aged children. They also suggest that early intervention for late talkers is important. KCI Citation Count: 5
