장 콕토의 『지옥의 기계 La Machine infernale』와 팔랭프세스트 글쓰기 연구

현대 프랑스 연극에 나타난 신화 다시쓰기는 고대 신화의 이야기나 고전 작품에 나타난 신화를 단순하게 반복하는 것이 아니다. 현대 프랑스 연극의 다시쓰기는 신화의 근간이 되는 이야기를 수용하고 변모시켜 자신의 장르에 맞는 새로운 형식과 내용을 덧붙여 새로운 이야기를 만들어 낸다. 신화 다시쓰기는 보편적 사유와 성찰의 대상이 되는 고대 신화를 새로운 주제와 함께 연극 텍스트에 다시 등장시켜 인간의 기억 속에 저장되어 있는 신화의 영속적인 움직임을 드러낸다. 다시쓰기 기법은 수용과 변모의 세계를 통해 상호텍스트성의 특성을 전달하고 있는 것이다. 다른 작품에서 이미 사용되었던 형식적 기법이나 내용을 자신의 작품에 다시 나타나게 하는 텍스트간의 상호 관련성인 상호텍스트성 이론은 이들의 작품에 분석하는데 도움을 줄 수 있다. 하지만 이들의 연극 텍스트는 단순한 모방이 아니라 자신들의 고유한 문체와 새로운 정체성을 고안해내고 있다. 글쓰기는 결국 다시쓰기라는 사실로부터, 우리는 모든 글쓰기는 ‘다시 쓰기의 대연쇄 grande chaîne de la réécriture’로부터 유래한다는 점을 생각할 수 있다. 연극 텍스트는 다양한 내용과 형식의 층위에서 신화를 인용하고 변형시키고 있다. 대부분의 경우 주인공의 이름의 사용, 등장인물들의 갈등 관계, 극작품의 묘사의 대상이 되는 시공간의 모습, 서사의 장치 등은 신화 텍스트에서 그 원형에서 찾을 수 있다. 그리스 로마 신화, 게르만 신화, 구전되는 프랑스 전래 신화들이 다양한 양상으로 프랑스 문학 작품과 극작품에서 재생산되었다. 재생된 신화는 당대의 세계관이나 작가의 세계관을 반영하기 때문에 내용과 형식의 변화를 수반한다. 우리는 본 논문에서 소포클레스의 『오이디푸스 왕』을 시인의 상상력을 발휘하여 자유롭게 개작시킨 콕토의 『지옥의 기계』에 나타난 다시쓰기의 기법과 신화의 변모를 연구하고자 한다. 고대신화와 신화를 다시 쓴 문학 작품들로부터 탄생한 콕토의 극작품은 존재론의 문제와 당대의 세계관을 성찰하고, 새로운 연극미학을 표현하고 있다. This article pursues the writing palimpsest in The Infernal Machine by Jean Cocteau. His dramatic works based on the myth between the world war I et II have exerted an enormous influence in the theatrical world. Flowering and dissemination of ancient myths are fundamental features of the theater in the twentieth century. But the nature and function of myth is to provide, as the ages and writers, to multiple interpretations, its original meaning is often misused, or at least directed by contemporaries in the direction of their personal or collective interest. The myth of Œdipus, which, analyzes Freud, had given a new interest has been the subject of dramatic modern adaptations. Cocteau in The Infernal Machine, in 1934, was mainly focused on its value tragic, emphasizing the blindness of Œdipus and horror of a destiny he does despite himself, without knowing either the understand. Theater rewritten Cocteau correlates with forms already used in classical theater and the myth of Oedipus. It is easy to see that scene from the ancient to the modern stage of Cocteau, Oedipus the mythical discourse undergoes a series of moves, shifts, changes. Cocteau's most cosiderable contribution to the problem of the writing palimpsest is his insistence on the formal revolution of the theater. KCI Citation Count: 0
