멜랑콜리 미학을 통한 로버트 프랭크의 다큐멘터리 사진에 대한 재해석

본 연구는 멜랑콜리 미학을 통한 로버트 프랭크(Robert Frank, 1924∼)의 다큐멘터리사진의 재해석에 관한 연구이다. 개인의 고통과 불안한 시대를 지나 온 프랭크는 멜랑콜리적 정서와 힘이 예술의 동력으로 사용되어 자신의 삶과 작업에서 부정의 정서가 새로운 가능성의 의미로 전환되는 모습을 보여준다. 멜랑콜리 파토스는 우울하며 슬픈 기색을 의미하지만, 그 부정적 고통의 그늘 반대편에는 다른 긍정의 내용이 있다. 살아있는 생명체로써 멜랑콜리적 삶은 강하고 섬세한창조자로서의 인간이 가지고 있는 힘이다. 미학적 힘의 근원으로서, 멜랑콜리 파토스는 내재된 주관적 고통의 개별적 인식에 따른 경험과 체험의 시간을 겪어낸 자에게 주워지는 월계관이라고 할 수 있다. 그러므로 죽음에 이르는 병이라는 과거의 우울과 불안은 우리에게 삶의 가능성으로서 다가올 수 있는 것이다. 고대 그리스 학자들로부터 키에르케고르, 니체, 하이데거를 통하여, 비극적 상황의 고통에서 유래한 명랑성이 불안을 자유로 치환한다. 삶을 존재하게 하고 시간의 존재로부터 자유로운 주체로 다시 태어나게 하는 것이 멜랑콜리적 파토스이고 미학적 힘이다. 미학적 힘, 멜랑콜리의 원천으로서의 내재적 공명을 다큐멘터리사진 이미지로 보여준 로버트 프랭크의 작업을 연구하였다. 인권에 대한 인종 편견적태도와 소외, 군중속의 고립, 침울한 권태와 절망의 일상적 미국을 보면서 프랭크는 현실을 직시하였다. 그의 사진은 구체적인 조형성과 말하고자 하는 내용의 전달이 아니라 관객의 해석에 따른 해석학적 관람을 요구한다. 대상에 대한 자신의느낌이 나타나는 사진 이미지는 내적 의미의 발현이며 인간의 삶에 관계되는 의미를 지닌 메타 감정이다. 본인은 대상물로부터 전해지는 주체자의 직관으로 다큐멘터리사진 작업을 한 로버트 프랭크를 멜랑콜리 미학으로 재해석하여 다큐멘터리사진의 미학적 힘을 논구하고자 한다. This study is on The reinterpretation of Robert Frank`s documentary photography through the melancholic aesthetic power. Aesthetic Pathos is a pretty gloomy and blue image, but Aesthetic Power also has an optimistic image as well. That is the power of Melancholic life as a living creature. The living creature is a strong and sensitive creator that is a human being. Through melancholic agony; Despair can be turned into the hope. That is an aesthetic power and the road of melancholic wisdom. Melancholic pathos as an aesthetic power`s origin is a laurel of victory to the human being been through the subjective pain. Greek cheerfulness replaces the despair to free will. An aesthetic power comes from the melancholic pathos. It is for us to have a chance to be born as a fulfillment of the will. That is an aesthetic power of melancholic pathos. Despair as ‘The sickness unto Death’ is an another possibility approached us. The happiness rooted tragedic pessimistic disposition pain change the despair into freedom through the Greek philosophers, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Heidegger. Throughout the history, the pessimistic disposition has had effects on all major areas of thinking since Greek tragedy. This form of pessimism is not an emotional disposition as the term commonly used. Melancholic pathos is an aesthetic power that overcoming and transcendence beyond finite being to infinite free subject. I studied on Robert Frank`s works that have melancholic pathos of inner resonance. That is a manifestation of humanism. That is a communication between artist and image. The United states in the 1950s experienced economic growth and highly materialistic periods. Consumerism spread over all western society. Robert Frank`s photographs showed for distanced view of American Society as a immigrant. He saw racial issue, alienation, despair and loneliness of America. He captured a tension of race, class differences in a daily life. He wanted to follow his intuition and his way needed viewers interpretation, not make a narrative story and artistic rule. That shows melancholic pathos and aesthetic power to keep him as an documentary photographer.
