2012년 대통령 선거에 관련된 신문 기사의 보도사진 분석 -조선일보와 한겨레신문을 중심으로

본 연구는 ``1984년 미국 대통령 선거당시 뉴스매거진 사진에 대한 연구``를 통해서 2012년 한국 대통령 선거 기간 동안 신문 기사의 보도사진에 대해 분석하는 연구이다. 신문기사의 보도사진에 나타난 대통령 후보자들의 시각적 이미지가 어떻게 보도 되었는지 대표적인 신문 매체의 분석을 통해서 보도사진의 중요성을 알아보는 것이 연구의 목적이다. 선행연구인 ``1984년 미국 대통령 선거당시 뉴스매거진 사진에 대한 연구``는 1986년 발표된 것으로 미디어에 비춰진 후보자의 보도사진에 대한 전문가 분석과 선거기간동안 보도사진의 흐름을 통해 후보자의 행동 양상에도 영향을 준다는 것을 연구한 것이다. 이 연구의 연구자는 모리아티(Sandra E. Moriarty)와 게라몬(Gina M. Garramone)으로 이들은 3개의 지표에 의한 사진 분석유목를 기준으로 10개의 시각적 특성을 코딩했다. 본 연구는 선행연구와 같은 방법과 분석기준으로 대표적인 신문인 조선일보와 한겨레신문에 대해 전문가 코더인 사진기자 2명을 섭외하였다. 일반적으로 성향이 다른 것으로 알고 있는 두 곳의 신문에 나타난 보도사진 총 503장을 대상으로 분석을 진행하였다. 분석방법은 선행연구을 근거로 3개의 지표에 근거한 10개의 세부속성(상체, 팔, 손, 얼굴, 앉은 자세, 옷차림, 소통, 사진위치, 사진크기, 카메라 앵글)에 가장선호 하는 것(3포인트)과 가장 선호하지 않는 것(1포인트)으로 하였다. 전문가 코더인 2명의 사진기자의 분석을 통해 다음과 같은 연구결과를 돌출하였다. 1)조선일보는 10개의 세부속성 중 박근혜후보 5개, 문재인후보 3개, 안철수 후보 5개의 속성이 가장 높게 나타났다. 2)한겨레신문은 10개의 세부속성 중 문재인 후보 7개, 박근혜 후보 5개, 안철수 후보 5개의 속성이 가장 높게 나타났다. 3)보도사진의 비중은 한겨레신문(271장)이 조선일보(232장)에 비해 선거기간동안 많이 보도하였다. 결론적으로 두 신문의 성향에 따라 보도사진의 세부속성이 다르다는 것을 알게 되었고, 전체적으로 보도사진의 세부속성이 긍정적인 후보가 실제 대통령 선거에서도 좋은 결과를 만들었다는 것을 연구를 통해 알게 되었다. This study analyzes news coverage photos during 2012 presidential election season in Korea following ``a study on news magazine photos during 1984 presidential election in United States.`` The purpose of this study is to prove the importance of news photos by analyzing how main news media reveal each presidential candidate. The preceding study, ``a study on news magazine photos during 1984 presidential election in United States``, presented to the public in 1986, found that analysis of experts about candidate`s media coverage photos affects candidate`s aspects of action. Sandra E. Moriarty and Gina M. Garramone, the researchers of this study coded 10 visual properties according to 3 indicators. This study follows the same methods and standards involving 2 photo journalist experts in the two main media, Chosun newspaper and Hankyoreh newspaper. The subjects of this study are 503 news coverage photos on these two newspapers which have been known to have different point of view. Method of analysis is based on preceding research where 10 detailed properties(upper body, arms, hands, face, camera angle, sitting position, outfits, size and placement of the picture and communication) based on 3 indicators were given 3points(the most favored) or 1points(the least favored). Result of research were derived with the help of 2 photo journalists and it follows the below. 1)In Chosun newspaper, Park Geun-hye got 5 properties, Moon Jae-in got 3, Ahn Cheol-su got 5 properties that turned out to have had the highest points among 10 detailed properties. 2)In Hankyereh, Moon Jae-in got 7, Park Geun-hye got 5, Ahn Cheol-su got 5 properties that turned out to have had the highest points among 10 detailed properties. 3)Hankyoreh newspaper(271) reported more photos of candidates than Chosun newspaper(232) during the presidential election season. As a result, details of news coverage photos turn out to have difference according to the point of view that each newspaper takes. Also, if the details of news coverage photos on a candidate are positive, the candidate has higher possibility of gaining positive result in election.
