Summary: | The goal of the present study is to develop and examine the vocabulary lists of a convention English corpus. The lists were extracted from small specialized corpus of written texts in English from various resources about convention business. The two vocabulary lists–frequency list and keyword list–were identified and analyzed. Also the words indentified through the frequency and keyword list were examined in terms of the range of the GSL, AWL and Off-list.
The analysis showed that all the words in the two vocabulary lists were strongly related to the convention business. Also it was shown that the most 50 frequent words in a convention English corpus compiled in this study consisted of 37 basic words (GSL) and 13 AWL and Off-list words, while the 50 keywords consisted of 30 basic words and 20 AWL and Off-list words. The results suggested 1) an importance of basic words and sub-technical words to understand the texts of convention English, and 2) an importance of using both the frequent vocabulary list and keyword list in teaching and learning convention English in class. Suggestions for using vocabulary lists from ESP corpus into an ESP classroom are discussed. KCI Citation Count: 6 |
