다문화가정 아동의 언어 관련 학술연구 동향 및 내용 분석

다문화가정의 자녀들은 모국어가 한국어가 아닌 부모의 영향을 받아 일반가정 아동에 비해 음운인식능력이 낮고 수용언어와 표현언어 능력이 낮은 등의 언어발달에 어려움을 겪는다. 따라서 다문화가정 유아의 한국어능력 향상을 위한 체계적 교육이 요구되는데, 본 연구는 이러한 다문화가정 아동의 한국어 교육의 중요성이라는 문제인식을 바탕으로 학계의 다문화가정 아동의 언어발달에 대한 관심을 이와 관련한 연구결과가 체계적으로 축적되고 있는지를 통해 파악하고자 하였다. 이에 2010년부터 2018년까지 학술지에 게재된 다문화가정 아동의 언어를 주제로 한113편의 논문을 분석대상으로 연구유형, 그리고 연구방법을 축으로 워드 클라우드 분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 해당기간 연구의 편수는 증감이 있지만 전반적으로 감소하는 추세를 나타냈다. 둘째, 대다수의 연구가 유아와 초등학생을 대상으로 연구를 진행하였으며 급격한 발달시기를 경험하는 영아기에 대한 언어발달 연구는 부족하여 영아의 언어발달에 대한 연구가 확장될 필요가 있다. 셋째, 다문화 유아 관련 연구가 양적연구 위주로 실시되었는데, 다문화 유아 언어발달에 대한 심층적 연구를 위해서는 질적 연구를 더 수행해야할 필요가 있다. 넷째, 학술연구 동향을 살펴본 결과 다문화가정 아동의 언어와 관련된 정책 연구는 미비한 실정으로 교육과 각종 프로그램의 기반이 되는 정책연구의 확대가 필요함을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 다문화가정 아동의 언어발달의 연구 동향을 살펴봄으로써 이들의 언어발달 현황을 파악하고 언어발달 지원이 적절하게 이루어지고 있는지를 검토하는데 도움을 제공하였다는데 의의가 있다. Children of multicultural families are known to have difficulty in language development such as lower level of phonological awareness and receptive and expressive vocabularies ability because their language development in early years is influenced by non-Korean parents. Therefore, more research interest on language development and education is required to improve the Korean ability of young children from multicultural families. The purpose of this study is to grasp the interest in language development of multicultural children in academia based on the recognition of the importance of Korean language education for children of multicultural families through the systematic accumulation of research results. We conducted a word cloud analysis focusing on research types, topics, and research methods based on 113 papers published in academic journals from 2010 to 2018. As a result, first, the number of studies in the period showed an increase and decrease over time but an slight overall decrease. Second, most of the researches were conducted on infants and elementary school students, and there is a lack of language development studies for toddlers who are experiencing rapid developmental periods. Third, research on multicultural preschoolers was mainly focused on quantitative research, and further research on qualitative research is needed for further research on multicultural preschool language development. Fourth, as a result of examining the academic research trends, it was confirmed that policy research related to language of children of multicultural families is lagged and it is necessary to expand the policy research focusing on language education and programs for young children. This study was meaningful in that it helped understanding the current status of the literatures in language development among children from multicultural families and provided the future direction in research in Korean education for the children.
