Summary: | Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the maximum bonding strength of three different agents used to customize the metal base for lingual orthodontic appliance made using non-precious metal. Methods: 60 human premolar (Upper 30, Lower 30) specimens were randomly divided into 3 groups, based on the combination of three different bonding agents (No mix, Mix, Dual cure resin cement). After processing by direct bonding in accordance with each manufacturer`s instructions, all specimens underwent thermocycling. The maximum bonding strength was measured at the moment of metal base debonding. Results: Application of dual cure type resin cement (Unicem, 19.68±4.72 MPa) yielded a higher bond strength than the other two bonding agents (Reliance:11.56±3.94 MPa, and Premix:12.30±3.53 MPa). Conclusion: The dual cure type resin cement has a clinically satisfactory bond strength, which can be attained when customizing the metal base for lingual orthodontic appliance made with non-precious metals, using the direct bonding process. |
