Summary:Language is a basic tool for the purpose of maintaining regular relations with others or achieving the aim of our communication. In our practical language, it is an appellation that is a representative tool which shows relations between tellers and listeners and reflects the social structure to which the language belongs. In contract to the pure grammar, a wrong appellation may not make it impossible to communicate. Nevertheless, the appellation is very important in the practical language, because, if adequate, it can make good relations with our opponents but otherwise may cause the opposite. In this regard, this was a ‘comparative study of appellations in Korean and Chinese language’ through translation for them. Based on the fundamental and comparative investigation on basic appellations in Korean and Chinese, this study focused on appellations of characters in fairy tales, with translation studies. In results of this study, the translation of those characters’ names and their proper appellations played an important role in making correct and natural sentences. In further studies, all fields related to translation studies as well as the appellation should be continued to research. KCI Citation Count: 1
