Abstract The food production in Vietnam has been increased markedly after the economic reform so called Doi Moi from 1992. The amount of nitrogen fertilizer consumption has been increased in 1990s. Vietnam becomes the first country that carried out intensive agriculture in South-East Asia. The deterioration of water quality is reported in the metropolitan area now. We composed a numerical model based on nitrogen balance, which can predict the water quality relating to population increase and food production in Vietnam. It is predicted that water pollution will spread in the most of the region except the north mountainous area by 2030. As Vietnam has relatively large population and small arable land area in South-East Asia, it is very important to harmonize its agricultural policy with the environment. ドイモイ政策以後,ベトナムにおける食料生産は急速に増大している。これに伴い窒素肥料使用量も急増している。ベトナムは東南アジアにおいて,唯一多投入型農業が行われている国となった。ハノイ周辺などでは,水質悪化が観測され始めているが,この傾向は今後拡大しよう。数理モデルを用い人口の増加と食料生産量の増大が水質に及ぼす影響を検討したが,2030年において山岳地帯を除くほとんどの地域で窒素汚染が発生し,特に中央直轄市周辺,メコン川デルタ,Red Riverデルタでは,深刻化することが予測された。これまでベトナムでは食料の増産に力点が置かれてきたが,今後は物質循環と調和した社会を構築する必要がある。このためには,人口の分散と共に,畜産振興の是非,また米輸出促進政策の見直しなどを議論する必要がある。
