Abstract We investigated the relationship between preoperative nutritional index and skeletal muscle mass index (SMI) using the bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) , and evaluated the preoperative nutritional status in patients diagnosed for the first time with colorectal cancer stage III. The subjects were 41 cases (17 women, median age 62, 24 men, median age 66). The anthropometric values using the adipometer and inserter tape were equivalent to the new Japanese anthropometric reference values disclosed in the Japanese Anthropometric Reference Data (JARD 2001). The nutritional index [physical measurement, grip strength and geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI)] were correlated with SMI and are highly sensitive to the sarcopenia reference cutoff values (SMI) indicated by the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia 2019 (AWGS2019) (ROC curve). Preoperative nutritional index for colorectal cancer stage III have been supported by SMI and are considered to be clinically significant.
