Summary: | Even assuming that there is some genuine information about an outrageous social situation transferred by a fictional film, the form of the experience still leaves us wondering just what course of action there is for the spectator to take in response to whatever imperative the film seems to have kindled. Contemporary critics of literature and other forms of "text" or narrative representation tell us that seeming gaps in the smooth surface of the work, or loose threads in its weave, are clues to the presence of ambiguities that may be examined fruitfully (Schauber and Spolsky, 165).\n Any narrative, indeed any discourse, makes distinctions, excludes and includes, and therefore establishes a community. |
