Abstract We have developed a 3D local high-precision positioning system to be applied to novel medical training models used in medical schools. Twelve units of 1-axis extremely sensitive magnetic sensors, GIGS (nano-Granular In Gap Sensor) and high-speed signal processing circuit on FPGA (Field-programmable gate array) board were used in the system. The system response and the positional accuracy were about 0.1 s and +-0.5 mm respectively. It is expected for medical student to improve the educational effect, since an operator's finger position or surgery tools such as forceps and endoscope position in the medical models can be visualized on a computer's screen.
