Abstract L-105, a semi-synthetic sephem antimicrobial agent, having an activity against gram-possitive and gram-negative bacteria and a stability to β-lactamases was administered to 20 patients with respiratory tract infections which were pneumonia (7 patients), bronchitis (5), bronchiolitis (1), chronic bronchitis (4), bronchiectasis (1), and tuberculosis (2). The clinical results of a total of 15 patients were excellent in two, good in eight, fair in four patients, and poor in a patient, respectively. Five patients who were considered inadequate for evaluation of efficacy of the drug were excluded. Therefore, the overall clinical efficacy was 66.7%. The causative organisms were eradicated in 5 out of nine patients (55.6%). The side effect was not observed in any cases. The abnormal values of laboratory findings were detected in four patients (20.0%), but were not severe in all the patients. From these results, it appears that L-105 is a valuable antimicrobial agent against the patients with respiratory tract infections.
