Abstract Two-hundred and fifty-seven patients with early gastric carcinoma who underwent resection at the Department of Surgery, Kanazawa National Hospital during the period of 16 years from 1969 to 1984 were studied clinico-pathologically. None of the patients with a macroscopically single type, elevated or flat, died of recurrence. In the surface area of the lesion, there was no remarkable difference between surviving and recurrent cases. There was no significant difference in survival rate between depths of invasion m and sm (p>0.01), between patients with intravenous invasion and those without (p>0.01), or between INFα and INFβ (p>0.01). There was a significant difference between patients with lymphatic metastasis and those without (p<0.01) and also between patients with lymph vessel involvement and those without (p<0.01).
